ultraSounds crazy?

I stumbled on a story that a researcher believes too many ultrasounds can cause autism. So, forgive me if the question offends you, but what is your experience, thought, reaction, story?

All I know is I had numerous ultrasounds with the rooster, and very few with Peaches.

fascinating...I'd heard rumors about this earlier in my research - but never ever found the actual study/info - do you have a link to it? I had numerous ultrasounds with my guy - due to complications in the pregnancy...at least one a week for the last trimester... maybe more, so I'm a bit intrigued...

Hmmm. Had lots of ultrasounds with Rocky in the last month of pregnancy -- he was breech. Had only a few with Taz. Both are autistic.

I'm thinking that this study may have found an association, not a correlation: in other words, the two factors are related, but not causally related. Maybe kids with autism are more prone to in utero difficulties such as breech presentation that require extra ultrasound procedures.

ultraSound logical?

Hannah's birthmother had to have several ultrasounds (weekly the last 2 months of her pregnancy) and a weekly non-stress test during her pregnancy due to severe asthma. I've not read that article before. Could you send me the link? I still have to think that if you need excessive ultrasounds due to medical reasons (which is the only reason why I can think of them doing more than one or two in a pregnancy) then autism is still better than the negative that could have come about without the monitoring of the ultrasound if you know what I mean. I'd much rather have Hannah with us now, Asperger's, SPD, and all rather than have risked her not being born healthy. I don't even want to imagine that scenario.

PS. Don't beat yourself up about "causing" Rooster's autism

I only had the one at 20 weeks and then one the day he was born. Interesting theory though.

No, I don't think ultrasounds cause autism. And I had more (and earlier, which I would think would be more likely to cause problems) ultrasounds with my NT daughter than I did with my AS son.

I had three times as many ultrasounds with Andy as I had with Joey. Guess which one is autistic.

What I can say is that Joey HATED the ultrasounds. He would punch at the wand and go nuts. Perhaps he had sensory issues even then?

I've read something similar. I did have numerous ultrasounds with Foster, but I had even more with Reilly (who wanted to come early - landing me in bedrest for 12 weeks!) and Sophie (who was breach until the week before I delivered).
